A Temporary Conjuring Of A Permanent Flame

The goal of these works is to transport people to a spiritual realm through collective experiences. Using wine glasses, water, and vocalizations, with participants discovering accidental harmonies while holding productive dissonance. With these vocalizations, the sculptural works are activated and “combination tones” appear – sounds that seem to emerge from elsewhere. These works provoke a range of emotion, from elation and catharsis to what one participant called “mass hysteria”.

The conjuring of more voices than there really are opens a different dimension of experience. Offering a way to access spaces that may not officially exist is a small but powerful gesture, and has become the focus of my research. This work additionally is an experiment in losing one's voice among the voices of others. The goal of the effect of this loss of Self is to feel lost in a way that is held, not abandoned.
